Hi it's very very delicious and quality food all I can say excellent and service very good people come in and happy with the food and the manager

  • *****

We LOVE Hummus Express!!! Best Mediterranean place in town hands down. Love the lamb Kabobs but there are so many great flavors to choose from. Every time we ask the staff about the new items on the menu we find all new favorites that make it hard to choose which ones we like best. Hands down the best and the owners are super friendly too! Love this place, the high quality of food and the amazing tastes! I'm already thinking of what I want next time!

  • *****

Absolutely fabulous! Awesome vegan options. We had the falafel sandwich and it was very satisfying. Excellent service and great prices too. We will definitely be back.

  • *****

Tried all the hummus in town and by far the best, very creamy (no grit) with a dash of olive oil and spice. Would go back just for the hummus alone! Had the beef kabobs for the first time today, so tender that I could of mistaken it for beef tenderloin ( filet mignon). Salad are always fresh and our favorites are the kofta and the falafel plates. I aways order extra falafel on the side because my family aways eats the falafel from my plate, leaving me only 3-4 pieces.

All items on the menu are great ! Can’t complain about the Customer service very friendly :). Come here pretty often with my toddler and he loves anything on my plate. Third time coming here the owner dropped off a bowl of soup no charge, for my son, thought that was very sweet!

  • *****

Yummy!!! If you like garlic, than the garlic sauce is a MUST! Very friendly family environment! Very helpful in deciding what to get for my first visit. I'll definitely be going back!

  • *****

Humus, shawarma, the Tahini sauce, everything on the menu taste fresh and and home made. It's Jordanian style.

  • *****

After having been disappointed with other local Mediterranean restaurants in Bakersfield I think I've found my go to. I ordered the kufta the chicken shawarma and the fatoush. All exceededmy expectations. Great flavor, service, presentation and portion size... I'll be back, soon.

  • *****

Chicken kabob plate is delicious and the Chicken is very juicy. Hummus is also very good. And the lentil soup is to die for. Would definitely recommend this place over flame and skewers.

  • *****

I ordered catering for work and it was amazing! Not only was the food fresh and great, but it was so much. It was more than enough and we still had a bunch left over. We ordered chicken and beef/lamb shawarma, falafel (which were so moist), rice, fries, fattoush, and hummus. The owner even threw in some extra stuff for us! The customer service was great and putting the order was easy and I felt like our group was taken care of. Would definitely recommend for catering!

  • *****

Love the take out falafel diner...easy/peasy and healthy.

There is not much more I can say about this place that hasn't already been said in the prior reviews, but it is worth making a note about the apparent owners of this place. Not only do they make some fantastic food, my favorite being the beef kabob with fries instead of the salad, but they are extremely nice. Tonight the owner sent out some bowls of soup as our food was taking a bit longer than they anticipated. Man, let me tell you, the soups were fantastic, both the lentil and the chicken soup, very flavorful. I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can really enjoy the soups. You just can't go wrong with this place.

  • *****

We just had our first experience here. The food was excellent! Reasonably priced for the amount of food. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Loved that they have vegan options as well.

  • *****

Wow, what a great find! I was looking for a quick, filling meal after a day of hiking and am glad to have found this place.

I had the lamb and beef Shawarma plate and it was delicious. It came with seasoned rice, hummus, and salad. The meats were well seasoned and tender, while the veggies were fresh. The tahini sauce was so good that I had to ask for another cup. I ended up mixing their hot sauce with the tahini to add some extra kick.

I was hungry, yet I still wasn't able to finish the entire meal. I ended up taking the rest home and had the leftovers the next day.

If you're hungry passing thru BF, it's definitely worth the few miles detour off the 99!

  • *****

Fettah is wonderfully seasoned and tastes like the real thing in the Middle East. The falafel is so flavorful and hot when served. The lentil soup is as good as moms! And the beef sharwarma is delicious. Totally recommend this place and will definitely be back!

  • *****

Really nice Mediterranean cuisine. Reasonable and very tastey. Very nice portion sizes.

  • *****

This place makes it really easy to go vegetarian because their falafels and hummus are so good, that's all I want to eat! I'm convinced they have the best falafels this side of California. The fries are pretty amazing too.

  • *****

Ok! A co-worker who is from Turkey brought me to this place a year ago; I haven't turned back since. This place has replaced flames & skewers hands down! I gave it four cuz it's a small eatery within Pomeanade off of Rosdale hwy.

  • *****

We are new to the area and looking for good Mediterranean food. We are vegan so we both ate the hummus plate with rice! It is super delicious!!! The servings we're generous and the flavor superb! It's super hot in Bakersfield so enjoying our food in the cool restaurant was nice too. The staff were all very attentive and efficient! We will be back!

  • *****

We love this place, it's a family owned restaurant, very nice people,
Got to meet the owner and he was making sure we are completely satisfied,
Food was amazing, we had the shawarma and the chicken kabob, it was really good.

  • *****

Fresh, clean and economical. Whenever I am in Bakersfield I eat here every evening. The kafta is great, the rice is great and the hummus is fantastic. I love the fact that they serve ketchup.

  • *****

Did not expect this quality from a snap decision to pull off the highway. Really good.

  • *****

Authentic and delicious. My whole family loves and appreciates Mediterranean food. We'll make the drive to Rosedale more often to eat here.

You go into a place, not sure why. You're searching for something. Your soulmate? Probably not. You're hungry? Sure; you're starving. You reach for the door. Hesitation, when you see the pictures of food plastered on the windows. You read somewhere that you should never eat anywhere there are pictures of the food. You think," oh well, this is bakersfield, it's not like I have option". The door chimes as you open it.

You are greeted by a 20 something college girl at the register. You think, "That's odd, she should not be here" and immediately your feeling about choosing this place over del taco improves.

You order the chicken shawarma. You're still not sure what shawarma is but you saw them eating it at the end of a Marvel movie so it can't be that bad.

It takes a long time to get it and the price was not as affordable as you expected but you wait patiently eyeing your surroundings and not complaining about the price because you really have no clue what you ordered.

There's a picture of Petra on the wall that you recognize from an Indiana Jones movie and another of some Romanesque landscape and ruins. You look at the other wall and notice the quote, a proverb, that says, "unless the Lord builds this house the laborer labors in vain." At this point you've nearly forgotten the pictures of food plastered on the windows outside.

And finally the food arrives. You're surprised that you had never known what shawarma was because it is delicious. Literally, food from the Gods. Everything is perfect. The rice golden yellow with the perfect amount of sticky. Suddenly you wonder if you'll meet your soulmate. Probably not but what luck you had finding this place.

On Fourth of July I was in desperate need of finding a place to order food for a potluck. I knew i wanted to bring some sort of Mediterranean food so when i stumbled on Hummus Express I was so happy to see they were open.
The service: the cashier was so helpful. She explained the portion sizes to my mom and I so patiently and carefully. We did have a little bit of a wait, but it was barely an hour which is absolutely incredible for the amount of food we ordered.
The falafels: these were some of the best falafels I've ever had. Perfectly crunchy and moist on the inside. These falafels were perfectly seasoned as well. Not too salty and not over cooked.

Chicken & Beef Shawarma: the meat was also very nicely seasoned. It was very juicy and tender.

Rice: also very nicely seasoned and was not greasy at all. It was closer to a fried rice than what i expected but still very tasty.

Tabbouleh: this was by far my absolute favorite thing we ordered. It was not too sour and was not too salty. The amount of citrus that was added to it was perfect. It was garlicky and fresh just like it should be.

All and all my first experience here was nothing but positive. Everything I ordered is definitely something I will be ordering again in the future.

The food here is packed with flavor & always tastes fresh. You can tell the owners are very passionate about their food and they put a lot of love into it. I've tried all the other comparable places on this side of town and none have come close. Keep up the good work!

  • *****

Honest food at exceptional prices! The owner was very nice and the lentil soap has to be the best I've tasted in California!! Must go back!

  • *****

Absolutely delicious food (we had chicken, beef and lamb shwarma and falafel). Peaceful atmosphere too. We will come back!

  • *****

Bakersfield surprised me again. Hummus express is excellent. The hummus is home made and soooo good. The falafel wrap was also incredible. I was temped to get some hummus before we left town. We will be back next time we roll through town.

  • *****

Good food, decent price, clean place.

  • *****

Owner went out of his way to give me lentil soup while I waited for my to-go order. Food was really good.

  • *****

    Amazing food!

  • *****

BOOM!!! This place is FANTASTIC! I ordered the falafel plate. It came with 7 good sized pieces, a nice sized portion of hummus (which was excellent), the best fries I've had in a long while, a mint cucumber salad, and a pice of pita bread.

While the mint was way overpowering on the salad, everything else was exceptional. I will be returning. I'm going to try the chicken shawarma next time.

  • *****

This place is the spot! Great customer service and delicious food. I was offered a free sample of lentil soup by the manager as I was waiting for my kabob to be prepared. Another time, the cashier offered me a cup of water while I waited. There's a 10-15 minute wait time if you order the kabob; but it's real food, not fast food.

  • *****

Love the hummus the best in town !! Falafel is the bomb everyhing here is made to order for the most part so good

  • *****

Hands down the best quick eats Mediterranean restaurant in town! The beef kabob is new York steak and was cooked to perfection! The falafels and hummus were so good I keep craving them!

  • *****

What an amazing restaurant! We had the beef and lamb shawarma, falafel, chicken soup, lentil soup and freekeh soup. All were amazing and full of flavor! The baklava was also delicious! We were driving through Bakersfield, on our way up north and are glad we found this gem. A special thank you to the chef for the wonderful food, hospitality and great service.

  • *****

Pretty good little place. The hummus is really good and the service is great, food came out quick and had really good flavor. It's a smaller place with not a ton of seating but overall I recommend this place.

  • *****

Friendly service and great value for the food. Had a falafel wrap and a lentil soup for $10 and was a healthy/hearty satisfying meal.

  • *****

This place is family owned and operated. They always friendly and the food is pretty good along with reasonable prices.

  • *****

Hidden gem! It's so good! Well worth the drive off the 5 to get here.

We got the plate, and they were kind enough to substitute the rice with more salad.

The chicken shwarma was juicy and well-seasoned. It tasted authentically Mediterranean when coupled with their tasty hummus. Their salad was fresh and lightly dressed with vinaigrette. But what took it all home was their chicken soup - savory, hearty, and goes straight to your soul.

Your body will thank you for having this food!

  • *****

Excellent food excellent service. I wish I could eat it every day.

  • *****

Drove past 1000 times. Finally stopped in and got dinner for myself and the wife and we were blown away. We really like FlameNSkewers but this locally owned business is better in our opinion. The chicken Schwarma is amazing. This is our new Mediterranean place!

  • *****

This was my first Mediterranean experience and it was some of the best food I have ever eaten. Everything was delicious from the soups to the fries and hummus to the meat! This is my new favorite place to eat in Bakersfield.

next Time I am on rosedale highway I will stop by for lunch

  • *****

This place is a hidden gem! The owners are so sweet and make the most delicious food. I went in to just grab a menu and the owner said not to leave with out trying his lentil soup, which he then gave me a huge free serving of. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I told him I would be right back and when out to get my mom out of the car so we could both enjoy a delicious meal. We shared some more lentil soup and a chicken shawarma plate and tried some of the baklava. The owner also gave us a sample of the chicken soup, which was delicious as well. We had a great experience here and will be definitely coming back and bringing friends with us.

I have attached a new menu that they are carrying as of 4/2018

  • *****

Great tasting food. They add a touch which makes it homemade. I've had humus in 4 diff places, and this one is best so far. Been here 3 times. The salad, fattoush, was great!! They have a diff menu off the main one. Will def be back to try it out.

  • *****

I love this place, they have amazing lamb kobobs. They make the meat to order so wait time around 15 mins you can call in advance and place the order or just wait it’s so worth it!!

  • *****

Love the food here. Fresh and delicious. Great customer service. I was just waiting for my food to go and they gave me lentil soup to try. Delicious and so nice of them. I love the falafel and salad. Must try. Great quality food.

  • *****

After eating at Flame & Skewers for years I was introduced to Hummus Express and I have not looked back. I LOVE the food, the owners and the employees. In fact I am now an addict. I have to eat their food at least once a week. It is one of Bakersfield's best kept secrets... you will not be disappointed. Faves are chicken schwarma and kabobs, garlic chicken fries and all of their soups.

  • *****

Very good authentic food. Simple setting, quality food. Served very hot. Price is quite reasonable.
    Thumbs up!!

  • *****

Went there yesterday. Tried the falafels they were great. The tabouli salad was incredible shaurama was really tasty. He gave us two kinds of soup to sample. Lentel and chicken wheat. Both were incredible good! On a scale of 1 to 10 I give It a 9 1/2 only because the tahini wasn't thick enough. But I highly recommend it. You won't be sorry and the owner and service girl were very friendly and make you feel like If your at home. We're lucky to have a place like this in our neighborhood. G.A. Viera

  • *****

First time here and I will definitely be back! I ordered the falafel plate to go. The falafel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, full flavored. The French fries were perfectly crispy (which I was worried about) even after driving 17 mins to get back home. The hummus was my favorite! The best I've had in town thus far and would go back just for that! The side salad was just okay. The fatayer was good, especially dipped in the garlic sauce. Service was polite and quick. I can't wait to go back and try the fattoush salad!

  • *****

Best lamb kabob on the planet! Spicy flavorful and the babagnous great and the pilaf look loved it all.

  • *****

Owner is AMAZING and the food is EXCELLENT! Best Mediterranean food in town. Highly recommended!!

  • *****

Best middle-eastern food in town. Spectacular quality and service every single time.

  • *****

This is for absolutely a hole in the wall/plaza that everyone misses driving down Coffee Rd. We ordered the beef/lamb shawarma plate along with their beef/lamb California fries. Everything was seasoned nicely. There was a generous portion of the beef/lamb, the rice was cooked till tender, the hummus was standard, and the salad was fresh. The cashier was friendly and the food came out pipping hot without much of a wait. We will definitely return and am glad we made the venture into the little gem.

  • *****

Authentic Delicious food ,everything is fresh ,best place in Bakersfield and great customer service if I can put 10 star I will !

  • *****

I had the beef and lamb shawarma the first time, it was the best in town. The second time I had the chicken shawarma and it was also the best in town. This time I had the California fries, and they are incredible. If you want some garlic fries this is the place to go. After years of trying garlic fried these are the best I have ever had from the east coast to the west coast! ---Get the garlic California fries!!!

  • *****

I would highly recommend this place. I went with my boyfriend and the food was very good quality. The fries were very good and crispy! You're allowed to get both meats on the fries if you can't decide. They have good portion sizes as well. The owners are very friendly, and we love the atmosphere!

  • *****

Great food, consistent everytime. The owners are very friendly and everything is made from scratch and very authentic. 10/10

  • *****

Summary: Food is bursting with flavor! Don't be confused by the full-body color posters of food covering the windows -- this food is true to itself. Not watered down to meet fast-food expectations. I had the babah ganoush (smoky eggplant spread) and humus, with lentil soup. It was so delicious I got some to go. The humus was incredibly silky and piquant and so different from store-bought. The rest of the family had meat - generous portions. The friendly owner showed me how he was trimming the fat and sinew from the meat for his shawarma. We will stop here again.

  • *****

I'm not normally a person who writes reviews, but I LOVE this place. Owners are so gracious, and the food is amazing. Chicken schwarma, YES! Kabobs, YES! Falafel, oh absolutely YES!! My favorite place for falafel in Bakersfield.

  • *****

We tried this place after a high recommendation from my brother in law. We were not disappointed. My husband got the lamb kabobs and said they were delicious. I got the chicken shwarma which was really good and came with some really
    delicious hummus.

The wait was a little long but the girl upfront told us it would be a wait for the kabobs. We told her we were okay with the wait. Food was good and well worth the wait. We will definitely go back.

  • *****

Just WOW! Incredible Mediterranean food at reasonable prices. My wife and I each had their falafel dinner plate with rice and everything was prepared to perfection. Will certainly stop by anytime we are in the area.

  • *****

  • *****

Please try this place, for the sake of your palate. It's clean, it's affordable, its family run. Very nice, they know how to run their business. Great place to start if you've never had Mediterranean, if you don't know what to get, get the California fries. Essentially carne asada fries, they come with tahini or garlic sauce, and beef or chicken. Amazing and simple.

  • *****

I've only been here once and there staff was very very nice and helpful I got there falafel I believe it was the lamb one and it was sooo good also there hummus is beyond delicious!

  • *****

One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. I tried the lentil soup and the chicken shawarma fries with garlic sauce. Everything was great. So fresh and delicious. The owner was there cooking. He is so nice. He came out into the dining area and brought us samples of others soups on the menu. I'm definitely recommending this place and my family and I will be returning.

  • *****

good food, it is as good a Flame n skewer but slightly different in flavor. portion is ok for the price. luckily it is near my house and Flame' is near my work.

  • *****

I always have amazing food here. The wait is a bit long, but It is always made to order and tastes fresh!! It blows Flaming Skewers out of the water!! Their fries are better than anywhere else in Bakersfield and their meat quality is second to none. Always juicy, never dry. My favorite is the beef skewers.

The best part of their menu is the Hummus. If it's in the name it has to be good!! It tastes freshly made, not too strong, not overdosed with spices. It is so creamy and can be eaten with everything.

The only request is to have some Mediterranean music going on to fill the ambiance, but it is just a request...

Love it here, even the staff is friendly!! You know they are very passionate about their food!!

  • *****

Nice place with a lot of selections. Reasonably price. I went for lunch and had the chicken swarma (?) sandwich. It came quickly and tasted pretty good.

Inside is simple. The music wasn't my style, but didn't detract from the meal. You can order to-go. I ordered in and was pleasantly surprised the sandwich came on a ceramic plate. Nice touch

    I would eat here again.

  • *****

Great hospitality, amazing food, and good prices. I'll be returning here frequently.

  • *****

  • *****

Delicious pea soup and awesome coffee for those of us daring enough to go beyond the stale coffee franchises younger crowds prefer ! I enjoy Cuban coffee and I have to say ... Hummus Express is my new go to, it's just that good. My friend had the hummus , pita bread , fries and salad and she loved it ! Prices are very reasonable and service is quick. Staff is welcoming , friendly and efficient.

  • *****

Great food. I always enjoy a nice kabob. I had the lamb kabob and it was chaired to perfections. You know you found a keeper when the lamb is fresh and prepared well.

  • *****

Dropped by in Bakersfield on our way to vegas. Tried a couple of dishes and they wheeled scrumptious. If we are in the area we will visit more often.

  • *****

This restaurant is amazing. The lamb kabob was fantastic so soft and tender that I can't believe that it was lamb. My husband had the beef kabob and that was just as tender. I can't believe that we just stumbled on this place. It is definitely among the best I've had.

  • *****

Great food. The owner is a really nice guy. He brought my brother and I a soup just to try it out. It was amazing. I just loved the food. You get a lot of food for a great price. I would eat here again and again.

  • *****

It is a tiny place with few tables. The place is clean. No waitress, you have to go order your food. The service is good and quick. I got falafel plate which comes with French fries, hummus, salad, and 1 big pita bread. Falafel was small but good. I also got lentil soup " I wish they serve it with crackers or baked crumbles". Their baba ganouish was also good.

  • *****

    Shukran my friends!

  • *****

Good quality food. The lentil soup is amazing!

  • *****

Best chicken kabab I have ever had. Hands down to the chef. Large amount meal for a reasonable price. My place to go for food take out.

  • *****

5/5 of my coworkers say these are the best beef kabobs they ever had - I agree! (It tastes as good as a $100 steak)

Wonderful and friendly staff too. This is a hidden gem of Bakersfield for a delicious relaxed lunch. Try it once and you will tell all your friends!!

  • *****

    Quality and Service.

The food was better than I could have imagined. I waited about 10 minutes for my food but worth the wait as it was piping hot and freshly made! I will definitely be making my way back here. The chicken was seasoned nicely, the salad was fresh and the Hummus brought it all together.

I was also impressed with the owners attention to detail. After I had received my order I asked for tzatziki sauce (which is normally extra) and before the cashier could utter the words "it's extra", the owner said it was on the house this time.

However subtle the gesture might have been, it speaks volumes as to how important this establishment takes it's customer experience and their cuisine as well.

  • *****

Excellent food. I highly recommend these folks.

  • *****

This was the best middle-eastern food I've ever had. So much flavor and an amazing taste, and staff was super friendly. I wish they were close to LA, absolutely the best!!

  • *****

Fresh and authentic! This is best Mediterranean food in Bakersfield. The owner is very nice and makes the food himself.

  • *****

We stopped here on our way home from Sequoia. This place has good reviews for a reason. We had the chicken soup and the lentil soup, both of which were excellent. We also had the chicken kabob plate and falafel plate. I can't say enough about how every single component of the plate was perfectly seasoned, absolutely delicious. From the flavorful chicken, to the incredible garlic sauce(a must!), the hummus is the best I've had in a really long time, the falafel is soft and moist inside, but perfectly crunchy on the outside. Even the humble fries are something to rave about. I am impressed and this is a bookmarked place for Bakersfield. Absolutely excellent.

  • *****

The food here is delicious! We got the falafel combo and we were satisfied with the flavor and quality. The baba ganoush was out of this world! We bought some to go!

  • *****

    Excellent food and friendly service.
Fresh made to order and great flavors. The owner Joel came by our table to ask how we like our food and made sure we were satisfied.

  • *****

Freshest, most delicious food in Bakersfield. I'm not sure what to appreciate more, the excellent customer service or the outstanding prices. Definitely going to make this a regular spot for us. I recommend everyone try it out, you will not be disappointed.

  • *****

SOOOO GOOD! Always happy to have the lentil soup!

  • *****

Best kept secret in town! I'm revealing this to everyone I can. Great food and reasonable prices.

  • *****

We got the Beef and Lamb Shawarma plate and the California fries and an order of falafel. Everything was very delicious, authentic and fresh. Plenty of food and we would easily pay the price again for the freshness of everything. What made this place stand out more was how the owner and his son came out and made sure we were enjoying everything, if we needed anything else and conversed with us for about 20 mins. Really enjoyed everything about this place, will definitely be coming back.

  • *****

Great food and amazing conversation will definitely be back for more!

  • *****

Last minute decision to have lunch here with my husband. California fries are amazing. Garlic sauce another amazing experience. Lamb and beef were seasoned perfectly. This little spot will for sure be on my regular spots.

The food was delicious. Best Cuban torta I've had so far. Service took a bit to get my order. After the first bite. That didn't matter any more. Highly recommend this place.

  • *****

This is the best place for Mediterranean food in bakersfield , very delicious and tasty , highly recommended, The price is very reasonable . You must try this place , I have been coming multiple times and it is always amazing

  • *****

Joel the owner and his wife run a clean amazing business. My buddies and I love it here. We come weekly. Best hummus in town and Mediterranean food. If you haven't been here check it out. Get the chicken or steak kabob.

    Delicious food, good prices!

I first found this place 3 weeks ago because I got tired of going to same ol' watering hole for Mediterranean food in town (you know the one). So I gave this place a try (not expecting much TBH) and, to my complete surprise, I was blown away.

They take about 15-20 minutes to prepare kabob plates (cooked to order), so my wife and I ordered lentil soups and a tabouleh to enjoy beforehand. OMG! We couldn't believe how tasty the food was. We kept looking at each other in disbelief.....you know the look...."Is it just me or this food freakin' amazing?!" Needless to say, we feasted on our meal and have come back at least 6 times in the last couple of weeks because the food is that delicious. I've told friends and family about this place and they haven't been disappointed either.

Bottomline: Food is legit! Give it a try.

Side note: Last week I noticed they had a different soup on special (Freekeh), so I asked the owner about it. She was so kind to tell me about it and let me sample it. Of course, it was delicious. It's these little touches that have me come back over and over to 'mom and pop' places.

  • *****

Always good and friendly service and amazing fresh tasty food. Great steak and lamb shawarma, tabouleh salad and cheesy bread this time, finished off with yummy desert!

  • *****

Juicy beef kabob and crispy falafel with a tasty and feel-good salad and generous hummus serving to top it off. This might be my newest fav med food in town.

  • *****

Good! The chicken shawarma sandwich was tasty and it came with a side of fries which my daughter stole and gobbled up. It was large enough to split or make into two meals which is what I did. Friendly service as well. Recommend!

  • *****

This restaurant has the best shawarma I've ever had. My husband and I ordered both the chicken shawarma as well as the beef and lamb shawarma. The meat on both dishes was tender. Most places we have been tend to over cook the meat (or worse it sits out) and is very dry. Hummus express has it figured out- tending meat- YES. The plate is served with rice, salad, hummus, pita bread, and a special sauce. The sauce on each plate is different, but both amazing. One plate would have been plenty for two people to share, but we couldn't resist trying both.
They do not have a kids menu, which is disappointing. My kids shared a order of French fries and they were what other yelpers have said- amazing. They have the perfect amount of seasoning. My kids scarfed them down like they hadn't eaten in a week.
Like I said best Mediterranean food we have ever had.
    Staff is polite and helpful.

  • *****

I love this place. They have the best chicken kabobs. Their garlic sauce is to die for. Best food in town. You gotta try it.

  • *****

The place has outstanding service and a friendly staff. The food couldn't be beat. I tried the falafel wraps after much hesitance because I'm not generally a big fan of falafels, but Hummus Express may be my only exception. The falafels weren't dry and exceptionally spiced, the sauce to ingredients ratio was also perfect.

  • *****

I must say I had some preconceived notions about this place, but I'm happy to say, none of them came to fruition!!!
The falafel was tasty, hot and perfectly cooked:)
The baba Ganoush was tasty and had great texture...the chicken kabob was hot, tasty, but a little dry. But I would definitely get it again!
My friends shawarma was tasty and presented with love, and so was my kabob plate.
I loved the green salad that came with my meal and my friends fries were to die for!!!
Keep up the great work! Kudos, kudos, kudos!!!

  • *****

I never knew this little hole in the wall existed. I do have to say the food was exquisite. It was fresh, tasty, and balanced. Definitely a 5 star, but the wait was significantly longer than normal. My wife and I ordered our meal and we're the only customers there for 20 minutes. Two others arrived and they started receiving their food before us. Maybe I need to call in next time.
It was worth the wait however.

  • *****

Must try! Fresh delicious food. Clean, friendly atmosphere. Always satisfied with the quality of food when we come to Hummus Express.

  • *****

Great little place with incredibly friendly owner and staff. The owner obviously takes pride in serving FRESH and delicious food. We will be back as he has promised some more vegan options soon!

  • *****

Highly recommend!!! Great customer service the owner took really good care of us. Gave us a bunch of free goodies since it was our first time here. Got stories too which is even better. Can't rate highly enough, EVER so much better then that "other" place, who shall remain nameless.

  • *****

Ok, so our continual trek to find great Mediterranean food brought us here and Hummus Express is near the top of our list, maybe number one. Had the Chicken Shawarma plate. So much food! The rice and hummus are things I need done right. Check. And the Shawarma? Check. This is way better than the other place in Bako. This will be our place from here out. Great food, clean and very friendly. It has that familial feel. It's always a good sign when you hear other customers speaking the language of the owner. This place is the real deal. Go see Joel and taste the goodness.

  • *****

Called in for a falafal plate to take away. Ordered it with rice instead of fries. Was piping hot and ready when I arrived 10 minutes later, pita wrapped separately in foil. Their falafals are amazing! I could hardly keep from eating one in the car (I popped the styrofoam container open to let steam escape to keep my salad from getting too hot on the 5 minute ride home) and my car filled with the delicious aroma. Their hummus is light, not too thick like some places, and the salad has a hint of mint that gives a nice touch of flavor. The rice is also full flavor - this place beats Flame n Skewers hands down. I've had their beef kabobs on several other occasions and their juicy tenderness is worth the 20 minute wait. The restaurant is small and very casual, but clean. I tend to take it to go so I can stuff my face in private.

  • *****

Amazing food. Had falafel and the chicken shawarma platter. Both were delicious. Rice was well prepared, mint and lemon stood out in the salad. The garlic sauce!!! Spicy and flavorful. Amazing. Will go back again and again.

  • *****

I ordered the beef & lamb Sharma plate. It was so good, healthy and filling. My wife ordered the California fries which was good too. The fries were crispy and the garlic sauce was on point. It was enough to share. I'm so full from eating there and the service was great.

  • *****

Hummus Express is great place to go for delicious fresh Mediterranean food. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma and my husband ordered the Kufta. It was delicious. We have had the lentil soup and a green wheat soup in the past. Both were delicious and filling. The staff is friendly and the owner takes a lot of pride in his food. We love the fresh ingredients. I highly recommend.

  • *****

Seriously incredible, the food is always fresh and the prices are very reasonable. Love this place. My only comment is they could do a little deep cleaning but it's not bad at all. Family owned and operated and they have some of the best Mediterranean food in town. I think they even give student discounts to CSUB students!

  • *****

Very delicious and fresh. The chicken is super tender as well as the beef and lamb. Will have to return to try other items on the menu. I ordered the #4 Beef and Lamb Shawarma. Great stuff. My wife ordered the chicken kabob. Like I said chicken was super tender and my two year old really enjoyed it.

  • *****

Grabbed take out while driving through. The falafel wrap was delicious (my spouse got lamb gyros, which were merely passable). 5 stars on the fries.

  • *****

    Best Greek/Mediterranean food in Bakersfield!!

I love beef, however, my favorite item from Hummus Express is the chicken shawarma plate. The chicken has a great flavor, very tender, and you MUST dip the chicken in the garlic dipping sauce.

THE GARLIC DIPPING SAUCE deserves to have a paragraph written about it. It could not be any better. I love me some hummus, but if I had to choose between the hummus and garlic dipping sauce, I would have to choose the garlic!

I also love the greek salad they have. Very fresh and delicious.

Hummus Express tastes better than comparable restaurants (Flame N Skewers) AND, it is slightly cheaper than F n S.

Also, it is very clean and I have had great customer service each time I have been there.

Definitely Bookmark Status - One of the best Mediterranean places I've enjoyed. Ties with one of my fav spots in Carmel Ca, on Ocean, Damtra's Cafe. Hummus and Taziki were fire. Ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate. Seasoned very well and went nicely with their spicy garlicy sauce. Beef Kabob plate was just as good. No portion control here, had enough to take home. can't wait to taste the Tabouli I ordered to go. Also, shared the Lentil Soup, delish. While boxing my left overs, I think it may have been the owner/cook that saw me saving the rest of my hummus and came back around to give me, a to go side. Which was super nice and generous. If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would, Only reason for the 4 stars was the climate control inside and a little more detail when it came to cleanliness of the restroom. Other than that would order from here again.

  • *****

On my way back to Phoenix from visiting Sequoia National park I Googled Middle Eastern food,  Hummus Express came up, so I gave it a try and I was not disappointed at all, my wife ordered the chicken shawarma plate, and I ordered the beef and lamb Shawarma plate, both plates were very good, authentic, and filling. I give this place 5 stars and I highly recommend it ..

  • *****

I randomly yelped this place because we were driving through on the way to Sequoia looking for a quick lunch to pick up. Im so glad we fell upon it. When I first walked in, I immediately noticed the "homey" family run environment. The owner was sitting next to a couple chatting it up with a couple eating their lunch. The owner's son starts taking my order and I asked if the kabob is all white meat chicken. He said they actually don't ever make it with white meat but his dad just happened to make a batch today as a special request for a customer. He asked if there's enough for me and the owner agreed. As I was waiting for my food, the owner/chef brings me a cup of lentil soup to taste while I wait (delicious!). Then he comes up to me to ask why I want white meat because dark meat is so much better. He insists that I come back to try his dark meat and tabbouleh next time. My husband walks in, and the owner comes and brings us a cup of his chicken soup to try as well. We noticed that "happy birthday" was playing in the background and the owner comes back and says the couple that he was talking with initially and says it was the wife's birthday which is why he was playing it.

On top of this, his food was AMAZING. probably the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. Even though the owner was worried about the white meat chicken being too dry, it was perfect to me. My husband had the lamb and beef shawarma and he loved it. We decided to stop by again on the way back from sequoia and I did try the dark meat and the tabbouleh. All worth it. If it were closer to where we lived, we'd definitely be frequenting this amazing place every week! Thank you all again for a wonderful experience!!

  • *****

Good food. Friendly service. Great family that owns the restaurant. Joel is ????????

  • *****

Excellent choice if you like real Mediterranean food. Great size portions and very affordable. Everything on the menu taste great! The owner and staff are very kind. This place become our to go place for a quick and tasty Mediterranean food.

  • *****

    Simply the best! I'm a self-proclaimed food snob and they didn't disappoint...WOW! Don't walk there...run!

  • *****

Delicious fresh made to order middle eastern food. We had the falafel plate and it was very good. The owner Joel was very attentive and stopped by our table to ask how we like the food and engaged in conversation. He made us feel like home and we will definitely go back for more.

  • *****

This place is great! The owner is very friendly and put love into his food. The shawarma is the best in town! The food is hot unlike flames I keep coming back only con is that it is not vegetarian/vegan friendly at all I think meat products are in everything here but all around 5 stars all the way

  • *****

Heard this place was good and it did not disappoint. I wanted a salad. They have a couple of basic salads but nothing with protein. They said I could get a salad and a side of any meat Andrey would top it. I went with a Greek salad and Shawarma chicken. It was beautiful, tender and tasty. I think I have found a new Mediterranean place in Bakersfield.

  • *****

I was originally upset with the wife when she had me drive so far off the highway to get to this place; the drive from Vegas was killing me. But this was the best food for the price I had for the entire trip. We even convinced a few other people to eat there.
Limited menu but that made it easier for the others to order.
I wish I would had taken a picture.
    Definitely would recommend.

  • *****

Great food if you're trying it for the first time. I had the beef plate. Large portions for a good price. Hummus was really good

  • *****

Great food great price... everything was fresh, super friendly staff..clean restaurant

  • *****

I don't know where to start really. It's all good.

First off mint in the house salad. That's really an expensive ingredient to place in a salad and it's used quite liberally. It's refreshing to see it used, and it wasn't crushed. The owner knows how to use fresh mint without browning it.

Secondly, the schwarma. It's beef and lamb. No one in town does this. It's a rarity found only in authentic middle eastern restaurants or in the Middle East. As I walked in, the owner was putting a freshly marinated one together, asked if I wanted to wait. Of course I'll wait for quality. Almost like being on Ben Yehuda street in Jerusalem or in the old city it tasted so fresh.

Falafel, was just amazing. Cooked perfectly, just the right balance of ingredients to make it worthwhile.

Hummus in this town comes from a bucket for the most part. Heavy, dense and just too tight, and never enough olive oil. I know it's expensive. Almost a burnt taste to it. The hummus here was light, fluffy and had a great flavor, and garnished perfectly. If it's not homemade, it's doctored up very nice.

The best part was the prices. As others are cutting portions, they had good value for portion size. I'll be back. Chicken soup was great.

  • *****

One of the best mediterranean restaurants that I ever had eaten, the people from Jordan, they are Christian, we talked to the guy that owns the place and also cooks the food, an excellent person, he believes like the psalm 127-1. Excellent food.

  • *****

Very delicious! We had lamb and falafel, lentil soup- everything was juicy, extremly tasty and fresh! The owner was so nice. Highly recommended!

  • *****

Go here regularly, Joel (the owner) is amazing. The food is always fresh and cooked when you order. It takes a lil longer than fast food but is well worth the wait! My personal favorite is the chicken kabob

  • *****

We found this place commuting from Northern California to Southern California and stopped by the food. It was a completely enjoyable experience from the kindness of the staff to the delicious food. We are both handicapped and they made sure we got to our car and got our walkers in outstanding

  • *****

So glad we decided to try here tonight... delicious. Ordered take out, had to wait a few minutes inside for them to finish making our dishes, however not a problem though because the food was fresh and hot. Smelled wonderful also! Friendly staff and good food. We'll definitely be back. Two thumbs up

  • *****

Absolutely the best authentic Mediterranean food in Bakersfield! I should know! I'm Greek and I only like my family's and my own cooking but Joel and Helen's hospitality and flavors are AMAZING! Everything on the menu (and even those treats not on the menu) is Divine and from scratch! You won't be sorry no matter what you order! Kufta Plate, Babaganoush, their rice is exquisite, their fries the best ever, amazing falafel, lentil soup, chicken and rice soup, Greek salad, chili sauce, garlic sauce and more! Tell them Angie sent you! They know I Love them! Bon appetite! Bravo! !

  • *****

So glad we found this place! We had a falafel plate and a falafel sandwich. We also got a small order of hummus on the side, which was probably too much food overall - but it was so good! Prices were cheap. I would be very happy to eat here again.

  • *****

This place deserves ALL the awards! Chef Joel is welcoming, talented, and passionate about his food. This is hands down the most delicious Middle Eastern food in town!

  • *****

First time eating here and it was so delicious! I picked up a couple chicken shawerma plates a size of falafel balls and fries for my coworkers and I. The food was presented well and we couldn't wait to dive in. The rice was cooked perfectly and was the chicken was the best yet! the falafel balls were a perfect bite size and the fires were so perfect! I'm so picky with fries idk why LOL but these were fried perfectly and seasoned to perfection! The restaurant was clean and it a nice location. Parking was easy and didn't have problems finding the place. The owner and his daughter helped me and they were so nice and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Its a great place for lunch or dinner great value for the amount of food you get. Ill be coming here more often.

  • *****

Mediterranean food joint: small to medium size joint simply decorated.
My buddy I both got Lamb Kebab Plate...with rice, hummus, salad, & warm pita bread.
The lamb was prepared fresh and was juicy and tender. Salad was good, rice was flavorful, hummus + pita bread with great. We also got a side of Falafel - which was delicious!
Both, my buddy and I, have had other good Mediterranean places around town..... this place definitely earned a future visit.

  • *****

We found this place accidentally last year while driving through town from Washington to Arizona. We absolutely loved it! The food is refreshing and light but so filling. The service is extraordinary! It's hard to find such friendly welcoming service still these days and they hit it right on the dot. Sooo one year later we are driving to Santa Cruz for a family vacation from Arizona and we HAD to stop and have our family try the food. They loved it! From grandma to the kids. We may just have to make the 6 hour drive annually ????

  • *****

Very good service and delicious food. We had the chicken kabob and chicken shawarma plates. Both were very good and tasted fresh. Kabob was extremely tender and flavorful. Rice and hummus was very good. Really wanna try the California Fries which is their take on the popular carne asada fries.

  • *****

It was time to eat outside the box and tried something new. This place serves middle eastern food and is run by a nice Lebanese family. I tried the marinated chicken shawarma, served with yellow rice, garlic sauce, hummus and salad. The meat was moist and well cooked, the rice was delicious and the sauce to die for. The atmosphere is pleasant and clean with mellow middle eastern music in the background. Good first impression.

  • *****

We ordered the beef 'n lamb plate and chicken kabob plate, a sfiha and a side of falafel plate. This is a great Jordanian cuisine. Everything was super delicious, especially the hummus and falafel. The reason why I deducted one star is because I expected the chicken kabobs to be white meat as it is served in most middle eastern restaurants. I also personally prefer Lebanese Sfiha better.

  • *****

This place is so delicious!! Great service makes it even better.

  • *****

Have now been three times, and each time was excellent. Be sure to get the chicken shawarma and you won't be disappointed. A buddy of mine was skeptical to try the lamb kebob but went for it and devoured it all. He said it was perfectly seasoned and cooked nicely--not overdone so was juicier than expected, and better than he's had anywhere else in town. The restaurant itself has an average looking interior--almost like it's designed more for carryout than eating in. But the food speaks for itself. Also, every time I've gone, the owner and/or staff have always been extremely friendly and have offered up free samples of various creations including soup, dessert, and other tasty items from the menu. If you like going somewhere for great food and are not terribly concerned with ambiance/atmosphere, this is an ideal place. And the prices are just right too. You get a good amount of food for the dollar, and eating there won't bust your wallet. On two of the three visits made there so far, the place was very busy, which is a good sign. It looks like the word is getting out on this place. Go and enjoy some.

  • *****

    Awesome food, awesome people.

  • *****

I've had this place on my "must try" list for quite a while now, but my husband doesn't care for new things, so it's taken me a while to make it in. I was not disappointed, though!

I got a chicken shawarma plate, side of hummus, and sfiha to go. The dining area where I waited was clean and minimalist, perfect for such a small space.

The food was delicious. The shawarma was some of the best I've had, and the hummus was perfectly creamy and a big hit with my kids. We all enjoyed trying the sfiha, something we'd never had before. I didn't love the garlic sauce, which was disappointing to me since the garlic sauce at another well known local mediterranean chain is one of my favorite things on this planet.

Overall, it was a good experience at a pretty unbeatable price, so my kids and I will be back for sure!

  • *****

Clean environment, nice staff. Really good food. Overall, would recommend. 5/5.

  • *****

Space is limited but the foods taste delicious. Fair price, great customer service, and nice area. I definitely recommend this place.

  • *****

I eat there on my work lunch 3 times a week. They're always friendly and fast. I hate eating fast food so it's a healthy alternative that still taste good.

  • *****

I saw a guest get their Greek salad brought to the table.I was instantly intrigued.I asked the young man who brought out the dish what it was.He said it was the greek salad with a side of beef kabob. I told him it looked really good and he said it is. When I was about halfway finished he came out to check on me and my girlfriend to make sure everything was okay. The owner came up to us later at the end of our mail and asked us how everything was and personally thanked us for coming in.The food was portioned perfectly and tasted great. We will definately return.

  • *****

We had a great time and excellent food! I was pointing to show my son the rotisserie spit and the owner invited him to go into the kitchen and see how it works. Everything we tried was great. When my son's soup came out the owner also brought us samples of his other soups. I highly recommend the freekeh soup! My wife and I really liked our beef and lamb shwarma plates. It's cool when your son who loves Ralleys says he likes this place better. I will have to come back when we're in town.

    Update!!
Ask for the chili when you get the hummus. The owner asked me if I wanted to try it....it was awesome! Thank you sir.

  • *****

Please, check this place out! I have recommended it to 2 other people today :D
We went in for lunch on a Saturday before noon. The place is clean. It was empty, but we ordered the chicken kabob plate and a beef/lamb shwarma plate to go. The food is fresh and takes a bit. Each comes with a portion of fresh salad. Yum. Creamy, thin hummus. The best I've tried in Bakersfield! The yellow rice have peas, carrots, and it looks like ground meat. Flavorful. The pita is ok. The chicken kabob was tender, sorry flames&skewers! It had pieces of roasted tomato and onion. The beef/lamb shwarma was tender and flavorful. We will definitely return!

  • *****

Super good and affordable. I went when I was not eating meat or dairy and it was a very accommodating place.

  • *****

Good food, good prices. Just the right amount as well. They don't go to crazy w/ the spices like most kabob places. The real stars here are the French fries! Extra crispy, reminds me of the ones at the crazy Greek in baker ca. Really slow when I went, which is a shame. Go to this place people. Before it goes the way of the do do. Like most hidden gems in this town.

  • *****

Stop by. Great food and great people! Surprisingly better than just about anything you can get in the Bay Area. Skip Chipotle and give this great establishment a try. You won't be disappointed.

  • *****

I agree with others that there falafel is Amazing (I was one that said I didn't like it), hummus wonderful, french fries are great, french fries dipped in hummus even better. Did not care for my lamb sandwich (meat seemed dry). Owner was wonderful giving me a sample of the falafel. Will be back. Fast service.

  • *****

Came in for lunch with a friend- very tasty food! Had some shawarma and some taboulleh, and the owner brought out a couple samples of soup- chicken and green lentil- both were delicious! Very friendly service, owner/chef came out and chatted with us a bit. Prices were very reasonable, and less expensive than their competition. The only disappointing thing was I didn't see any lamb kabobs on the menu, only shawarma. Still very tasty- more 'middle eastern' style food than 'Mediterranean', very large servings. My friend and I could have easily shared a plate and been full. I will go back when I'm on that side of town! Yum!

  • *****

The food was good and the service was very good. I had the chicken plate and it was good and tasty. A large portion. The place is very small with probably only six or eight tables. I will likely go back. As the name says it, it is express and you can translate to very casual.

  • *****

Shawerma sandwiches were good, tasted homemade, which is always a plus. Filling too. Fries were so good. Perfectly crispy and browned and seasoned. Probably the best fries I have ever had. Wish I would have gotten a plate...saw a few come out and they looked beautiful and huge!

  • *****

So yummy! The owner & chef, Joul, was very hospitable. We had a sampling of many foods. Everything was tasty. Great customer service!

  • *****

Best hummus in town hands down... Save yourself from flame and skewers basic food. This is authentic Mediterranean. Chicken, kufta, lentil soup, and hummus are on point. Just opened up, so glad I dropped in when I drove by on my way home from Walmart.

  • *****

If you are in the mood for outstanding Mediterranean food and excellent customer service then this is the place. Be sure and try the lentil soup. Just the right amount of spices and ridiculously delicious.

  • *****

Hands down amazing home style cooked Mediterranean food you will not be disappointed try there shawarma plate and falafel

  • *****

Excellent. Ordered the beef kabob plate and the kufta plate, plus a side of falafel. Outstanding. Fresh cooked. Meat is not over done and not chewy, melts in your mouth. Falafel, light, not dense. Delicious. Friendly service. Will definitely eat here again

  • *****

Staff was friendly, very helpful to my 6 yr old daughter. The food was better than flames and skewers, in my opinion. The fries are a must try.

  • *****

I was about to get chinese food, but I saw this few doors down and wanted to give it a try.I'm so glad I did, it was phenomenal.I ordered the Chicken Kebab, and it was juicy and full of flavor. It was so delicious. The young man working the register had great customer service as well. I definitely have to come back and try the other dishes on their menu.

  • *****

The food here is really great, and they have great customer service. I think there shwarma plate is better than flame & skewers imo.

  • *****

Great food. I had the beef and lamb Shwarma sandwich. Very tender and tasty meat. The Tahini sauce was delicious. Didn't try the falafel balls but I will definitely be back.

  • *****

All around awesome place. Outstanding food, great service, very reasonable prices, and kind employees. Went here while passing through town and only wish this joint was closer to home! Can't wait to come back.

  • *****

Fast, fresh, cheap, and very good. Excellent Mediterranean flavors in a take-out format.

  • *****

Every single bite was better than the one before. Super tasty, fast and cheap. Ask for the hot sauce!

  • *****

Friendly prompt service and excellent food. Family-owned business. Owner gave us samples of delicious lentil soup and also chicken soup. Over several visits I've sampled their schwarma and crispy falafel plates - fresh and tasty. Falafal and Fries are really good as are the hot side and pickle sides. Also tried their sfiha (meat pie) and fatayer (spinach pie) but get those early because they run out fast.

  • *****

A truly wonderful restaurant with tasty food, great service, and friendly owners. We were able to try a sample of the lentil and chicken soups--both are amazing. We had the chicken shawarma plate, which contained hummus, salad, and rice; all items were full of favor!

Furthermore, the owner went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied with our meal. We felt welcomed and left Hummus Express completely satisfied with our first experience. We will be retuning--very soon!

  • *****

This is where I confess that my husband doesn't like hummus so I had to wait until he was out of town to try out the food at this place. I decided to go for the gusto and had the beef and lamb plate which came with soup, salad, hummus, rice, pita bread, and pieces of lamb and beef. I would have preferred being able to chose either lamb or beef as cooking them together like that just makes the lamb taste like beef to me and I really love the taste and flavor of lamb. Also I thought the meat needed more seasoning. The soup was ok but not great. I did really like the rice, salad and bread. And I loved the hummus as it had a great creamy texture. Portions were more than adequate so I ended up taking half of my meal home for dinner. The place itself was modern and clean, and service was good. I give them 3 1/2 for the meal, and a 4 for the hummus. If you prefer your middle eastern food to be milder then this is the place for you.

  • *****

This place is awesome! Everyone working here is so kind! My husband and I are both vegan and they quickly adjusted our meals to make everything suitable for us. It was delicious!

  • *****

The food and the employees are great. The plates are really satisfying! The falafel was perfect! We were offered samples of the soup while we waited, the lentil soup is amazing. Go here. Support this place!

The food is very tasty, portions are very large, and prices are very reasonable. Triple win! The French fries are fantastic - double fried and extra crispy. The lentil soup is the best I've ever had. We lived in the Middle East and this food is authentic and even better than a lot we had over there. The owners are Jordanian and very friendly too.

  • *****

This place is SO good! The chicken shawarma is so flavorful and the garlic sauce is delicious. We love this place!

  • *****

Can't say enough great things about this place. We normally go to Flame and Skewers and thought we would try something different for lunch. Boy are we glad we did. When we arrived we saw one of the owners hand making fresh fatayers (think that is how you spell it). The woman who took our order was extremely nice and very friendly. Our food was different from the typical Mediterranean food we have had in the past, but very good. We tried the fatayers, since we had never had one before and they were delicious. Their falafels were excellent. The whole experience from the food to the service was great. Prices are reasonable. We will definitely be returning.

  • *****

Found this place on yelp and went for dinner last night. After ordering the beef/lamb shawarma plate, the owner brought me lentil soup which I would never order. It was really great with just the right spice to it. I look forward to getting that and a sandwich for lunch in the future. My dinner was great! If you like flames and skewers give this a try, you'll love it!

When in Bakersfield and craving for Mediterranean food with no frills, no gimmicks, just good food, this is the place to go.

Located in one of the smaller buildings in a sprawling strip mall, parking may be a bit tough at certain times of the day, but I urge you to be patient, or even park farther out. This place is worth walking to.

Everybody's raving about the lentil soup. And rightly so. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, so I am comparing it to the local fast casual place, Dish 'N' Dash. This lentil soup is just as good if not better.

We had the unwrapped shawarma. The chicken was tender and juicy. Mixed with the greens and the rice and the sauce, your tastebuds are pleasured by the savory and bitter flavors.

And of course, its namesake dish, the hummus, is perfectly blended and seasoned. We brought some home, and can't wait to put it on all sorts of breads.

  • *****

I can't praise this restaurant enough... Absolutely delicious food and the owners are very warm and generous. They wanted to ensure everyone had the best experience possible.

  • *****

The food is very good, clean place, the service if super fast, these guys make Hummus like back home.

If you are looking for good Lebanese taste food I think this is the best place to try it in Bakersfield.

  • *****

We pretty much created our own buffet so tried about everything. The chicken swarma had a great flavor but if it was more tender, it would have been better. My friend said the same about the beef and lamb swarma. But for Bakersfield, not bad at all!

  • *****

OMG... This place is fucking amazing!!!
I just had the best kebab ever!!
    Really really really good food!

  • *****

Wow! So delicious! The kabob plate was so good. Yummy and the portion size was a good size. The owners are so nice too. God bless this place!

  • *****

Friendly owner and staff. Food was tastier than I expected. Salads were great, so is the beef shawarma and lentil soup. I wish they'd offer a salad with chicken/lamb/beef.

  • *****

The owners are so great. Everything homemade from scratch. Great prices. Best in town.

  • *****

Food is delicious, great service even my two year old boy love the fries with garlic sauce.

  • *****

Like my photo said, this lentil soup is a must try. Makes you feel all warm and rested.

  • *****

Food is great and service is great! Owner brought us out the lentil soup to try . Seriously good! Great flavor. My husband and I got the chicken shawarma sandwhich and plate. Sooooo good.

  • *****

Flame and Skewers literally has nothing on this place. Our meat was very tender and flavorful. Decent sized portions, we were able to feed a family of 5 with 2 plates of kabobs and a chicken shawarma sandwich. You can tell everything is freshly made. I will definitely be coming back!

  • *****

First time here. Great tasting food. Very friendly. Tried the falafel. It was very good. I recommend it to family and .others

  • *****

This is a great place to eat food like falafel and hummus
    Kabab is delicious and tender
The crew and the owner are nice and generous
    10 stars

  • *****

I got the chicken shwarma sandwhivh with fries. Its really delicious. Just wish it had a little more of the garlic sauce.

  • *****

This place is good. In my opinion it is just as good as flame and skewers or pita paradise. I wouldn't make a special trip just to go, but if I were in the neighborhood I would definitely think about ordering.

  • *****

I ordered the chicken kabob plate and it was really good... about a 15-20 minute wait but all the food comes out freshly prepared so it's worth the wait. The owner was nice enough to give all the patrons waiting in the lobby a free cup of lentil soup...very good! I'll be back

  • *****

Excellent service and food. Great prices for the quality. Heard the baklava was dynamite.

  • *****

This is excellent mid-east food. It's small but staffed well and everything is made from scratch. You're eating home cooking. The ingredients are good quality. I think they've got Flame and Skewers beat on taste. The Hummus Express staff pays attention and is far more responsive. The lentil soup is delicious. I enjoyed all the handmade details that really set it appart. I definitely recommend this place.

  • *****

Delicious! We stopped while passing through on a road trip and chose this place based on the reviews. We were not disappointed! Delicious food, nice family, and perfect for a quick meal. Well worth the trip off the highway. We will definitely come again when passing through.

  • *****

Stopped in for a quick bite while driving through Bakersfield. Delicious food and great service! Beef kabob fantastic and tender. Served with salad, humus and we swapped out rice for fries. Everything tastes super fresh! A hidden gem :)

  • *****

Great food and service every time. The food is consistent and full of authentic flavor. Fresh tasting Mediterranean food can be hard to come by but Hummus Express knows what they are doing!

  • *****

I'm very happy to be eating here. Food is great, device is wonderful and cost is spot on! I can't wait to come here again. The beef kabob is amazing!!! Fresh hummus too. Awesome!

  • *****

This is our favorite middle eastern place to eat. We come here quite often. The kabobs are wonderfully tender, juicy and well seasoned and it comes with delicious rice and salad. The hummus is excellent and so are the pitas. The soups are terrific. Both are excellent so it's always hard to decide which one to get. We highly recommend eating here.

  • *****

Amazing. I'm a big fan of Mediterranean and after kabob house closed I've been looking for a new spot. It's clearly family owned and they care about how they're doing. We were asked a few times if everything was okay. The service is a bit slow so allot about an hour for lunch. I wish they had taziki!!!! But I'll be back. The chicken kabobs are the best in town.

  • *****

I had the fattoush salad. It was light and bright with the lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes sparkling in the the flavors of mint, parsley, lemon and just a touch of onion. So many places make the onion overwhelming. Here it was just a flavor. The salad was covered in crunchy, crisp fried pita chips. So good!

I also had a Fatayer. I've never had one in Bakersfield before. Again, what I had was better than elsewhere. The spinach filling wasn't all vinegary. Instead, the sauteed spinach, onions and spices had just a spritz of lemon.

    Just lovely.

  • *****

This place is a rare gem. Found the place through yelp on a road trip and stopped in on a rainy day. The food was fantastic. The portions were very generous and the spice was interesting and delicious. Very friendly owner. I am sad that this place is so far from me, otherwise I would be eating here constantly.

  • *****

Always great food. Garlic sauce is the absolute best! I get something different every time and I am never disappointed! Guy in the back that owns and cooks here always comes over to talk to me about the food. I love this place. Great food! And great prices!

  • *****

This is the best middle eastern I've had in Bakersfield for sure. The owner is awesome, friendly, and seems to really enjoy his job. I've tried about everything on the menu and haven't been let down yet. Give it a try!

  • *****

I am an Israeli, and when I go eat Mediterranean food it rarely makes a dent on my mom's cooking. Hummus Express definitely just changed that! The service was great, and the food was DELICIOUS. the hummus is so creamy, the soup was flavorful and the tabouli was a perfect balance between grain and greens. The rice was cooked stunningly; the peas and spices and temperature made for the perfect bite every time my spoon met my mouth. If you're looking for authentic Mediterranean food and great service, go to the Hummus Express!

  • *****

Outstanding food and service. The kid loves the chicken sandwich and fries. We will be back soon.

  • *****

Bakersfield is so fortunate to have a family-owned-and-operated business serving authentic mediterranean food. From the savory lentil soup to the perfectly prepared shwarma, you can taste the quality ingredients. The portions are very generous and so are the staff. The owner warmly greets every customer and follows-up to see if they need anything. During my first visit, a couple at a nearby table were enjoying their lentil soup and heaping compliments on the chef. The owner must have sensed my curiosity because moments later, he brought me a bowl to try - free of charge. That, my friends, is how you get repeat business. But even without the freebie, Hummus Express is one of the best mediterranean restaurants in the San Joaquin Valley. Go try it!

  • *****

Best hummus in town. My wife makes her own and we've ate at all other med places but she's the pro and she's floored. Had to order more. This is on point. I ordered the beef and lamb shawarma and it was off the hook. My wife had the chicken kabobs and they were great as well. I usually don't hand out 5's but it's worth the drive from the East Side!

  • *****

I really like the taste of hummus. Was not hungry to get a meal and only wanted hummus. Walked in and right away the customer experience was awesome. Was greeted right away. Walked up to the counter and ordered hummus, 4 pita breads and 2 spinach Sfiha. While I was waiting at the table, maybe it was the manager, he came to the table and gave me a sample of the lentil soup while waiting. The lentil soup was amazing. Will be back again to try out the entrees.

  • *****

Very authentic Arab food, which is hard to find in Bakersfield. Absolutely delicious, and the owner is very welcoming and kind to his customers. You can tell he takes a lot f pride in his food. Will definitely be coming back.

  • *****

Wow!! Finally the amazing Middle Eastern in restaurant in Bakersfield. I want to eat all the Tabouli!!

  • *****

The Best Greek Restaurant in Bakersfield. I used to like another place here in town but the flavor and quality of the food here, not to mention the friendly staff. I'm only going here from now on!! I highly recommend the chicken shawarma and lentil soup!!

  • *****

So excited that this place opened up!
The inside is a bit bare and more of a take out place for me but I believe they are still in the midst of decorating.
The menu is varied, the owner is from Jordan. I read some things up there on the menu that I had never heard of before!
We just ordered a few standard things to try... pita bread, hummus and falafel. All good.
Not the best hummus I have had in Bako but this place at least had very nice service. We felt the hummus needed a dash more flavor. More garlic, more lemon, more tahini but it was tasty enough. Creamy and thinner than some.
The hummus may be express but everything else seems to be cooked to order. The falafel were very small but you get 6 to an order as a side and they came out hot and tasty. The pita bread was standard, it could have been a bit softer.
Due to service alone and wanting to see these guys make it, we will talk good things about it and we will be back to try... everything!

  • *****

I found this place on yelp when I craved for shawarma. This is the best place to go I swear! The owner gave me a free soup to try coz it's my first time. It was good! I ordered kufta and tafayer to go for lunch and it was soooo good! a must try restaurant! try it guys!

  • *****

"Come again and tell your friends", the jovial owner had said at the end of our business transaction. "Will do", I had responded.

So, here we go friends... this place is a 'hey-you-must-try-it-once' kind of a gem. The name and the logo of this place is most likely inspired by the Chinese restaurant chain Panda Express. There are limited items on the menu here but every entree has distinct spices and its little signature flavor. For example, the hint of Allspice in the chicken Shawarma was quite unique. The lentil soup was armed with cumin volatile-s and was perfect. The rice was unusually flavorful (I am not going to reveal every spice I spotted) and I intend to recreate it at home one of these days. The hummus - the namesake of this business - was creamy, thick and did not have overwhelming amount of garlic (thanks goodness for that change). For us, the portion size was decent. I may have eaten better Kufta kabob elsewhere but the chicken kabob was as tender as a ripe peach. The place is well maintained (don't expect spa-like ambiance in a place that calls itself an Express), kept clean and is run by the family. When families run businesses, the enterprise tends to feel a tad bit less commercial and a bit more warm (think of your last trip to McDonald for comparison). So did this place.

Now friend, it's your turn to go there, eat some excellent food, be charmed by the owner and his family and then do what I just did... spread the word to your friends.

  • *****

I've never had falafel before so I have nothing to compare it to, but this falafel was great. It was lightly crisped on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The plate came with fries, salad, hummus, sauce, and pita. The fries were perfectly cooked. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • *****

Gee these people are so nice! Our food was made very quickly, yet the man we believed to be the owner, gave us soup while we waited. And it was delicious! He was very friendly and you could tell he takes pride in his cooking and recipes. We took our food home to eat, only to wish we were at the restaurant to tell him how amazing everything was! Lots of flavor and FRESH ingredients. We will definitely be returning to try more of their items.

  • *****

Wow- how did I not know about this place sooner? My family was looking for a quick dinner last night and this place came up on yelp. We all like Mediterranean food, so gave it a try and boy are we happy! The beef kabob was the best I've ever had..tender juicy and so delish. Hummus was great. My sister had the falafel and rated it A+. We tried the fatayer and sifha? both really good. While we were waiting the owner brought us samples of their various soups to try...all really good. Great place, look forward to trying other items soon in the near future.

  • *****

Simply the best. The food is very very fresh and tasty. The garlic sauce is something to die for. Don't miss this place if you are in Bakersfield!

  • *****

    Very good food!
The owner gave us free samples of chicken and lentil soup, both are very tasty and savory.
The kabob plate consist of salad, hummus, rice and chicken or beef. Generous servings. The chicken and beef are tender and delicious. Hummus is very fluffy and light. Rice is seasoned just right.
Will definitely come back for more.
The place is sparsely decorated but it's clean. Staff and owner are friendly. Price is good, too.

  • *****

The food was amazing and authentic. Staff was friendly and quick. Will be returning!

  • *****

Great food, came in to pick up a phone order. Food was ready, place looked really clean and smelt amazing!! Next time I will have to dine in.

  • *****

Found a great falafel. Lentil soup very good. Can't wait to return. So glad to find Hummus Express

  • *****

Really very good Middle Eastern food. This is a small place with a limited seating as I believe mostly take out. Small staff but extremely friendly place was nice and clean and the food was really really good.

  • *****

Wraps had juicy flavorful meat mixed with creamy tahini! The grilled wrap gave it some warm crunch.

Shawarma be the best in town. It was hot . Sesame gives its a more distinct taste.

  • *****

I got the chicken kabob plate it was really good but it lacks the quantity of the meat. so you're starving and your me either this is not the place to come or you're just have to order extra meat.

  • *****

The food here is delicious. The Schwarma plates were nicely cooked and seasoned and the hummus was like silk. The owner even gave us a sample of his tasty lentil soup. Did I mention how friendly and sweet the employees are?

If you're driving the SF to LA route, stop here for lunch or dinner - you won't find anything else better.

  • *****

Really good chicken shwarma sandwich! Excellent seasoning, perfect size, overall quality was impressive. Substituted salad for fries.

  • *****

I went there again today. I was not disappointed thumbs up great food all the time. And I found Congress man kevin McCarthy eating there.

  • *****

As the others have said, nothing to complain about here, only positive.

Fast, friendly, really, really good food.

And it is a lot of food. We just ordered the #1 plate (beef and lamb) as well as the #2 chicken plate and we can't finish it all. Especially since we too were provided complimentary soups. It looks like it's time to get a to go box... and the sampler of baklava will have to wait until later this evening.

I definitely suggest you try this place. I would think that getting food to go might be a good idea as the dining area is tiny and frivolous (observation not complaint).

  • *****

This is one of the best hummus places I have ever been to. The chicken dishes are delicious and the portions are large.

  • *****

We were passing through BF and stopped by this place after reading the Yelp reviews. The food was awesome, very fairly priced, and served in generous portions. We had beef/lamb schwarma and chicken schwarma, respectively, with a side of fallafel. All were excellent. And it was more than we could eat! Plan for take home. The kabobs are cooked fresh and so take 10-15 minutes. I wish I'd been patient and waited as they looked fabulous. The space is modest, in a newish strip mall - but clean and bright. The counter staff was friendly, enthusiastic, and very helpful. Highly recommended and worthy of its high ratings.

  • *****

Amazing food. Much better than the declining dry quality of Flame & Skewer. Friendly and helpful staff.

  • *****

The food here is fresh, good value, great portions. The chicken kebab with hummus, rice, and salad is an outstanding value and will set you back about $10. I also ordered lentil soup which was good - not great but good.

My only complaint is that the ambiance is exactly what one would expect from a restaurant in a strip mall -- completely stark, boring, unexciting.

    Good food, lackluster ambiance.

  • *****

This how food should taste. Especially when it marked as "express". :) Ee ordered chicken soups and beef and lamb plates. It was very tasty and full feeling. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will come back if we are around.

  • *****

Excellent food Wonderful owner. Gave us free soup while we waited for kabobs to be freshly grilled. We loved everything we tasted. Will be back!

  • *****

Really enjoy the food here. Generous portions, good flavor. Highly Recommend if you feel like Mediterranean food

  • *****

When you walk into Hummus Express, you might be a little hesitant. It is very sparsely decorated, and a large sign with a Bible verse is the only "artwork" displayed. As you order, you might find yourself getting frustrated with the chilly reception of the cashier or the very loud music awkwardly playing soft rock classics.

However, as you go to pay, you'll feel your irritation dissipate, as you realize you're getting a ginormous plateful of food and an entire round of pita bread for less than 10$! I got the falafel plate: 6 chickpea croquettes, a large portion of salad, massive handfuls of well-seasoned fries, an enormous dollop of smooth hummus, and a round of tasty pita bread.

The owner or head cook (wasn't sure which) was super friendly and offered us a generous free cup of two different types of soup (lentil and chicken soup with rice)! Wow! The lentil soup was incredible!

Next time I am craving hummus, I'm definitely heading to Hummus Express!

  • *****

New kid on the block! And I must say, they're doing pretty well.

The local Talk threads were abuzz for some time about Hummus Express. I wasn't quite sure what to expect - was it going to be nothing but hummus? Was it fast-food Mediterranean? So I went in with an open mind and empty tummy.

Hummus Express is located between Quiznos and a hair salon. It's an odd place, but a busy strip mall that gets quite the traffic. We found parking easily enough and entered to find ourselves the only patrons on a Wednesday evening.

The menu was similar to most other local Mediterranean restaurants. Because I'm not a huge meat eater I always gravitate towards Falafel. Plus, it's just plain good! I chose the falafel sandwich since it has everything I love hugged with a warm pita.

One perk was the sample soups they offered us during our visit. One cup each of lentil and a chicken/rice soup. Both were hearty and delicious, but that lentil was perfection! I can't wait until the colder months to grab a giant vat of this.

All said, one falafel dinner, falafel sandwich, tabloueh salad, extra pita, and two drinks was right around $20. A great bargain for an inexpensive dinner.

Hooray for eating cheap and mildly healthy.

  • *****

The much awaited opening of the Mediterranean restaurant Hummus Express is finally here and it explodes onto the Bakersfield food scene with high marks all around!

The decor inside may seem sparse to some, but to me it feels clean, open, and uncluttered with three walls painted a beautiful light green contrasting with the bright blue of the fourth. The feel is of a Mediterranean seaside town with clear blue water and soft green hillsides.

You walk up to the counter and order your food, then take a seat to wait for them to bring out your food, which arrives on real plates. NIce touch.

The menu offers six different plates (specializing in the crowd pleasing favorites shawarma, kebabs, falafel, and kufta). These foods are spicy, aromatic, and exotic, yet familiar enough to the Bakersfield palate not to scare anybody off. Each of the entree plates are served with rice, creamy smooth hummus, and your choice of eight sides: hummus, falafel, tabbouleh, fatayer, fattoush salad, Greek salad, sfiha, or arayes. There are also four different sandwich offerings and two soups. Check out Keith C's pictures for full menu offerings.

My favorite Mediterranean dish has always been koobideh (or Lula kebabs) so I ordered the Beef Kebab plate and (I think) the fattoush salad. The rice was a nice surprise as it came not only with tasty seasonings but with peas, carrots, and ground meat making it a nice dish in its own right, not just a plate filler as it would have been at some restaurants.

With the name Hummus Express, I had pretty high expectations for the hummus, and I was not disappointed as it was smooth, creamy and tasty, simply flawless. If you've only ever had store bought hummus, prepare to have your world ROCKED by this hummus, which comes drizzled in olive oil and dusted with a red spice I assumed to be paprika. I loved the salad, and finished it before I even started on the rest of the plate. My companion was not as enamored with the salad which meant I got to take HIS salad home to enjoy as leftovers - SCORE! The best part, though, was the meat itself, which was succulent and perfect. And the portions are HUGE. We couldn't finish all our food and had to get a take home box and 3 days later this meat was still tender and moist as EVER!!!

My companion ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate (yes, I insisted he share) and his chicken arrived with an accompanying white sauce (garlic?) that enhanced the flavor experience. We met the owner, Joul, who very hospitably brought us over samples of both of their soup offerings to taste. The chicken soup was tasty with a pleasant tanginess to it, but the lentil soup is what completely BLEW MY MIND. It had a warm and satisfying blend of spices that felt like curry to me. I could LIVE off this soup. NO joke. I will definitely be back to sample this. My mom is a vegan, and it would appear from the ingredients listed on the posted menu that she would be able to enjoy this soup also, though I'd want to confirm this directly with the owners.

Just before we left, a sweet woman brought over a sample of the sfiha, which was reminiscent of a little individual pizza, only with Mediterranean flavors. It was good, and had a very subtle blend of spices. Even if you're not very adventurous about ethnic food, you would enjoy this side.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Hummus Express. I'll be back!!!

  • *****

Best lentil soup ever! I am impressed. Passing Bakersfield on our way home from S CAL and stopped here for dinner. Friendly staff and owner plus yummy food. What can I ask for more? Will definitely go back when we get a chance.

  • *****

Owner and family are amazing people. Love the food and hope they around for many more years to come.

  • *****

A gem in Bakersfield! We were driving through and my husband found this restaurant on yelp. Between the four of us we feasted on Baba Ganoush and Hummus (superior in flavor than others I've had), the lentil soup that was perfect, and three enormous plates of beef, chicken and lamb. I hope I can come back on our next drive down south. And... the owners are super nice and sweet!

  • *****

Yum! This place is pretty good. I want to come back to try other things because they were out of several items when I tried to order it. First visit, I had the beef and lamb plate. The hummus is probably the best I've ever had. That alone is 5 stars. It was so smooth and gosh just so delicious. If I didn't have the hummus, everything else would still be pretty great. Not the best, but pretty darn good. Rice was seasoned nicely and the salad was decent. Prices were fair and menu selection was limited, but I'll definitely be frequenting this place when I'm tired of Flame and Skewers.

  • *****

My husband and I stopped in here for a quick dinner shortly after they opened. We were greeted by a very friendly staff.

We both ordered a combo meal, which we received quickly. Still, while we waited we were given samples of their chicken noodle and lentil soups to try. I cannot wait until the weather cools off - both were absolutely fabulous and had me dreaming of a big container of soup to take home when it's cool and rainy out!

Our food consisted of beef and lamb, rice, salad, hummus, and pita. I found all of the food to be seasoned well and not too greasy. The pita was fluffy and chewy, and came with a generous portion of hummus. I ended up getting three meals out of my one combo.

The inside of the restaurant is clean and simple, but does heat up during the late afternoon when the front receives direct sun. Not a huge problem, but I'd grab my food to go if I was stopping in during the summer before dark.

Overall a great new addition to Bakersfield for quick, high-quality food options!

  • *****

Amazing flavor, quality and value. Appetizer of falafel, was crispy outside and just right inside, with a great dipping sausage. Their lentil soup is silky smooth, with an out of this world combo of spices. So satisfying on a chilly night. Last night we had a Beef kabob and Chicken kabob platter. They are cooked to order, so are served super fresh, tender and juicy. The rice is wonderfully tasty with Mediterranean spies that blend perfectly with the grilled meats. The salad was crisp and clean with cucumbers and mint with a zingy dressing. The plater is rounded out with hummus and pita. Dynamite dinner. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and they even went out of their way to accommodate a special request on packaging, to make reheating easier for a sick hubby at home. Thank you Hummus Express. You are an excellent addition to the Rosedale dining choices.

  • *****

Hummus express is so great. They aren't joking about the express part, because it is really fast! The owner is super friendly, the food is delicious, and the cashier greeted us with a smile. We will definitely be coming back!

  • *****

Okay let me start by saying this is by far the best arabic food in bakersfield for sure. Being middle eastern i can say that this is the closest thing to home cooked. Everything is great there. Food is reasonably priced and portions are good. I highly recommend the falafel and lentil soup! Both are AMAZING. Their fries are one of the best i have had, super crispy. Their baklava is very good also! The owner is super nice and friendly and i think it is family run which is awesome! oh and make sure to ask for their garlic sauce, it's really good!

  • *****

Yummy, fresh, good food. I had the chicken schwarma lunch, grilled chicken, veges, pita, salad, rice and the best hummus ever! Store bought hummus does not even resemble the delicious stuff made here! Wow! So good! The portions were large, took a box to go home. I have only been there twice and both times the owner made sure I was happy with the food, once gave me a sample of lentil soup, once a sample of his tahini sauce. Oh! And the garlic sauce on the side of the schwarma. This place is delicious. I am afraid their business may suffer because they don't advertise at all and it's kind of a hole in the wall little place. But very clean. Soooo much better than any other lunch place, real food great taste.

  • *****

Just got back from hummus express great customer service- super friendly owners My hummus, tabbouleh and falafel were so Delish! I highly recommend eating here!

  • *****

We loved this place! The prices are reasonable, the food delicious. We tried chicken shawarma (yum) and beef kabob (good seasoning but some fatty cuts), chicken soup (wonderful), falafels (SO GOOD, highly recommend). We will be back! The owner was there greeting everyone, and passing out samples... it was a nice touch!

Okay we tried this place last night for a nice and quick take out Valentine's Day meal. Me and my wife were both very impressed with the food!

I had the Beef Shawarma plate and the wife had the Beef Kabob plate. The meat was quite tasty, the salad was nice if not special, the rice was good (and I'm not usually a rice guy), but the hummus was so dang good! The wife agreed with all accounts in her plate as well noting her Beef was very good and tender too.

We also got the Lentil soup and a side of falafel. I've only tried falafel one other place (a local chain) and these were far better in taste and texture! The soup was creamy and flavorful my wage said she will definitely be back for more.

Um, I'm addicted. The reviews are true. This blows Flame and Skewers out of the water by a long shot.

Seriously amazing falafel that will blow your mind. The falafel is light and airy. It has a great texture. If you thought you didn't like falafel, it may have been you had an over fried dense falafel somewhere else. The falafel side is 6 pieces of falafel with sauce. The falafel plate has the piece of falafel plus a side of salad and tasty seasoned fries.

I also enjoyed the beef shawarma plate. It comes with a side of salad and rice which is kind of like a rice pilaf. The meat is juicy, not dry and everything is so flavorful.

Sometimes they give free samples of the soup. Don't turn them down! The lentil soup is hearty and full of flavor. The chicken soup is good for the soul and the broth is rich.

Tons of parking in the lot as well. One warning, the sun shines pretty intensely in the afternoon so I personally found the restaurant a bit on the overly warm side but it hasn't deterred me from going there 3 times this month so far...and counting...

Amazing food. I have eaten in LA area and Glendale area and this place is right up there. Simple and good food. Hummus, garlic sauce, the tabbouleh,

There falafel, rice, chicken, beef, and lamb shawrama are all moist with amazing balance in all the spices.

And yes I ordered all that food in one sitting

If you like fresh and delicious Middle Eastern food at a great price, this is the place for you.
My favorite is the chicken kabob dinner. It always arrives hot and delicious, extremely tender chunks of chicken. My wife and I have dined here half a dozen times and we always have had a great experience.
    We highly recommend !
The soups are wonderful too, both the lentil and frekeh. Hearty and delicious !

It's a great local family business for delicious Mediterranean food. The customer service is top notch but the food is the star. I recommend the kofta and the falafel. It isn't fast food so the food takes a little longer to cook. However, you can taste the care, time, and preparation that went into making the dish. I highly recommend this little mom and pop shop!

Go. Just go. You'll be glad you did.

My lunch date and I tried numerous things from the menu, and everything was so delicious we ordered even more to take home! My date lived in the Middle East for 10 years, and swore this was the best Mediterranean food she had eaten since returning. For myself, a vegetarian, I have a hard time finding much vegetarian selection in Bakersfield, so was thrilled to see the wide variety of meatless options on the menu! Everything was fresh and made to order.

Of course I also have to mention the people who run this restaurant and work there. Charming, attentive, informative, and did their utmost to ensure we had a good dining experience.

I think between the two of us and our Dine in-take out orders, we probably got 2/3 to 3/4 of the menu, including specials. It was ALL good. We both felt we found a new favorite in Bakersfield.

Hummus Express is located on the east end of the Northwest Promenade right by Walmart and Best Buy. I was alerted by this restaurant with the great number of positive yelp reviews in such a short amount of time. Bakersfield has become an amazing place to get Mediterranean food so this place has some good competition and it might be tough to pry people away from their go-to Mediterranean place.

I came here with a co-worker on our lunch break after being told by him he had never had Mediterranean. With my natural inclination to get people to try new things I had to take him here. We both got the Chicken Shwarma plate and when it arrived it was hard to conceive that a human could consume that amount of food. Not only did my friend eat all of his food, he wanted more and I basically ate myself sick it was so good.

The prices were standard for what you pay for a plate nowadays but this place gives you so much food that it makes it a great deal.

I'm definitely adding this place to my short list of lunch spots.

Craving authentic mediterranean food, I miss back home food. Came to my attention a restaurant name called Hummus Express, I said OH NO!!!! Americas corporate stole our food idea and made it their own way? WTF??? Then i said let go there and see what Americans did. Thank god i went in there, The restaurant not owned by any America's corporate and it was owned by a gentleman called Jool "I apologize if i spelled it wrong" This guy is from the middle east, Very nice and sweet person. I spoke to him, And i'm really glad that him and his wife they work together to bring real mediterranean food to Bakersfield. I was so happy that i did step inside, These people are super hard workers and understand authenticity. Hands down all their food are 100% authentic, You'd never know unless you are from that part of the world. I'm so proud of them, They put all other SO CALLED mediterranean restaurants to shame. Very good food, Great and nice restaurant, I swear they took me back to when i was a little kid, I love their food and i thank god for their existence. Why Hummus Express is authentic? I stand behind what i say 100%, They use the real mediterranean spices not fake stuff like others do "With all due respect", The falafel "American name Veggie burger" It's out of this world compared to Zanko in Los angeles and other places i tried. Not to forget the sweet young lady that greets the customers when they come in and takes the order, And the other middle eastern people who help them make things go in the kitchen, They all together are the American dream team. We're in a country that has no difference in color, shape or origin, We should be proud to see people like them take pride in representing where they from and serve Bakersfield residents with good food and service.

Thank you for being in Bakersfield, Made my life a bit easier cause i miss my family back home, And they made me feel like we're family here :)

Hummus Express is the most authentic Mediterranean food hands down, And i tried all places "Not to bash anyone out" My review is solely built on my opinion and i wrote the review just to take pride in my people that represent my country in a great way.

The fries are probably the best fries in town, maybe the best I have had. They have an extra-crispy coating. The falafel was very tasty. The hummus was creamier than I like it, but it was also tasty and they provided a good serving of it. The place is small, but very busy. They're doing something right here.

Great Mediterranean food, and I'm picky. I believe it is a family operation and they know their regulars. We really enjoyed it and wanted to stop there again on the way home but we weren't hungry then. Highly recommended.

Great taste and decent prices. The restaurant also has specials which provides novelty to the food since the menu is limited in their plates and wraps. I can't comment on the salads but they look big and yummy.
